Stephan van Duin, MSc

Head of Communication

Science becomes better and more useful if it has a strong connection with society. I dedicated my career to science communication to make sure that science and society benefit from each other as much as possible.

My professional career in science communication started after I graduated as a functional/evolutionary biologist in 2008. In the years since, I’ve developed myself in many directions. I started out in science museums and science journalism, and spent a few years bringing science to various audiences through festivals, TV-shows and books. In 2012 I co-founded The Online Scientist to help scientists directly with their communication needs, and by now it’s a household name in science communication.

I love chatting to and learning from researchers, and I’ve developed myself into a worthy sparring partner for them as well when it comes to communication. After some years at university medical centers, I’m happy to be back in Wageningen where I studied. At JII, my goal is to help the field of photosynthesis research progress and make sure everybody knows who Jan IngenHousz is (and how to spell it).
